For fall of 2020, Willard & Maple plans to run itself a little differently, too. As opposed to previous years, we're going to pause our usual in-take from around the world, and instead focus squarely on the Champlain College student body and their work. Submissions toward issue 22 are closed to non-students, but don't be discouraged. We will resume accepting outside of the college in fall of 2021.
Guidelines/Submissions
Please include a cover letter, a short bio, and any other information relevant to your submissions.
Submissions must be submitted online via Submittable. We no longer accept hard copy submissions through our mailing address. Unsolicited postal submissions will not be returned or read.
Willard & Maple seeks to include a variety of written and visual art, and unabashedly reviews any and all submissions. While the editing team takes time to consider every piece individually, there are a few simple rules to ensure a level playing field for all submitting artists.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but we must be notified immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
With acceptance comes a copy of the printed magazine, and the jealous respect of your contemporaries. This year, instead of solely accepting or rejecting, we may offer to connect you to a developmental editor in an attempt to get the piece someplace where we would like to publish.

Poetry
Submit 2-5 of your best, previously unpublished poems. Please submit one poem per submission so we are able to reject and accept poems individually. |
Prose
We would love to read your novel, but in order to give every artist an equal opportunity to fit into our latest issue, we ask that you please try to limit your prose pieces to 2500 words. Pieces over the limit won't (necessarily) be thrown out the window, but the further over they go, the more we will consider it. |
Visual Art
Submit your best paintings, pictures, macaroni art, and anything else deemed visually alluring. Please make sure the images are sent as .PNG, .JPEG, or .PDF files, and be aware that we will have to size the images to fit into the magazine if they are accepted. We usually vote on art as individual pieces, so if your submission is a whole collection, you need to clarify this. If your art falls into multiple categories, fear not. We are wholly intrigued and fascinated with any form of art. |
Author Rights
Willard & Maple holds archival rights for all pieces accepted. If you have a problem with archival rights and would prefer first rights, please email us after acceptance at willardandmaple@champlain.edu.
